Built-In Applications

Address Book

The Address Book built-in application, as the name might lead you to believe, provides an address book. Each entry provides for a first and last name, a title, a company name, several telephone numbers, postal address, and a note. You can indicate which telephone number is to be regarded as “primary” for each contact. You can use the note to keep directions to the location, a log of contacts with the entity described, miscellaneous information such as partner’s and children’s names, and so forth. Each entry also has a category and can be marked as private.

The address book application is useful by itself, but gets its real power from the other applications. Most other applications provide a phone lookup function, which lets you look up and include a contact name and primary telephone number directly from the other application. This lets you easily put the name and telephone number of the person you are meeting in the description of an appointment, for example.

Address List has two features that can be used to make it even more useful. The first feature is categories. The default categories of “Business” and “Personal” can be expanded so you can keep class list, club rosters, your work group’s phone number list, and so forth, without cluttering up the view you usually use. The second feature is font control. The default fonts for displaying entries it large and legible, but inconsistent with fonts used in other applications. You may want to change font settings in Address Book to match the fonts used in other applications; or you may want to use the font settings in other applications to match the fonts used in Address Book.
